Let's Do Lunch @ Bird Cow Fish

October is Good Food Month in Sydney and part of the food fun involves Let's Do Lunch. Hatted restaurants around Sydney participate by creating a set lunch offering, with accompanying beer, wine or sparkling water which adds up to $35 even.

Yesterday was a blistering 35 degrees C in Sydney and for us it marked the first Let's Do Lunch of the month at Bird Cow Fish in Surry Hills. On the menu was Chicken and mushroom pie in sour cream pastry with a puff pastry crust. It is the best pie I have ever eaten. Of course I had to have it with a beer or what kind of pie eating Aussie would I be?

There was bread to mop up the plate, lots of space to relax, chat and digest and of course the good food. The service was quick but not friendly. The wait staff didn't seem to be able to smile and it wasn't even a particularly busy day. The food was worth it and I will try this place for dinner in the near future.

A thirst quenching James Squire pilsner cooled us down after the 35 degree walk there

A good sized pie was filling. Giles had to finish mine
